If you are interested in starting a business making money online or have an existing web site and/or program you need to promote, then you have landed in the right place. Do you have a limited budget or you want to get your website to the top of the search engines, then article writing is the answer. You can use article submissions to attract your web site to ALL the search engines, and it is an excellent approach to getting to the first page of Google.

I was like most of you when I started promoting my web site. I spent money on these guaranteed visitors sites, Google Adwords and other web site promotion “tools.” But guest who was the tool? They advertise sending 10,000 visitors to your web site. You know how many leads and subscriptions I got after spending over $300 the first month? One! Yeah, you heard me. One!

When I discovered these so-called authorities did not know what they were doing or just simply wanted to take my money, I concluded that it was time to do what I should have done in the first place. Study the subject, do the research and due diligence before spending anymore money or wasting my time with other methods of promotion.

As a semi-retired director of economic development and job creation, I had a reputation for doing the background work on businesses and projects before advising mayors and other elected officials. But, somewhere along the way I forget how important that is. I want to also urge you to do the same.

DISCOVER WHAT REAL MARKETING MEANS

That was when I started reading up on Internet Marketing (IM). I decided then that the “experts” we putting the screws to us. The scams are everywhere and we must be aware. IM is not that confusing once you understand what the search engines look for and how that can be accomplished.

Targeted traffic is created in 2 ways. First, it comes from organic search engine results for your sites. Second, it comes from "good" backlinks to your site from high traffic sites on the web. We are addressing one method of developing backlinks here with articles. Then other method is reciprocal linking or exchanging links. However, articles create free one-way links at a higher volume.

They seek out links to other web sites and blogs, and links from articles, or ads that contain your web sites and keywords or phrases. There are other components and detailed explanations for how they “grade these, but we will forgo that for now. The bottom line is these are MAJOR!

That other problem is even when the “experts” tell you the “secrets” they manage to neglect most of the details. If you have an unlimited budget you can hire a search engine optimization (SEO) firm to optimize your web site then submit it to search engines and FFA’s for 60-90 days and then they guarantee they can get you to the top of the search engines.

Even then, if you do not continue to utilize their service you will NOT maintain this ranking long- maybe 30 to 45 days. Ads submitted to FFA sites are only good for one day. I don’t know if you are familiar with FFA submission sites/programs but they are set-up so that you must make submissions to these sites everyday.

Anyway, the whole process is only temporary unless you continue to pay them every month forever. That’s right. You spend $1,200-1,500 and get a temporary fix. So, unless you are making big bucks right away you may not recover your investment for months, even years. Therefore, if you are trying to start a business making money online you must be careful not to waste your funds to be successful.

THE ONLY "PERMANENT" MARKETING ONLINE

But, if you want to get permanent long-term results for your marketing dollar, and time, spend them both on reciprocal links and articles. These are FOREVER! Once you write an article and submit it to a directory it, when it is accepted it is there for the rest of time. Articles contain your targeted keyword phrase (keywords that identify your web site) and links to your web site that will be out there for eternity generating visits to your site.

The same is true of reciprocal links to other web sites. The way this works is you identify websites that have a similar interest or market as yours and you place a link on your web site that is for/to the other person’s web site and they do the same for you.

That’s the condensed version. These type links remain on the web sites until one of you decides to remove them, but typically that is rare because you do not want to lose these links. Therefore, theses links are long-term or essentially forever. This topic will be discussed at another time.

Back to the business of writing articles.

Before you begin to submit articles with the appropriate keyword phrase and hyperlinks to your web site or lead generating page, you must select your keyword phrase (typically 2-5 words). This is not something they all share with you when they recommend writing articles. I wrote 10 articles before I stumbled across an omitted item- articles must contain the keywords you have had "optimized" to your web site.

WEB SITE OPTIMIZATION: A MUST!

So, if have an affiliate web site, find out if it is optimized and for which keyword phrase. My keyword phrase is “business making money online” and I had to get the web site optimized for these keywords for my promoting to be successful.

I have a friend in my program optimize my web site. She has the experience and success with gaining web sites great ratings with search engines. Shortly after she did work on mine and following some promotion on my part, my site received very good ratings BEFORE I got the major links: 87/100= 87%. An 87% would have been impossible without her contribution.

KEYWORD PHRASE PROCESS

But, I did not just reach in a hat and select a keyword phrase. The proper and best process encompasses using the “Google Keyword Tool.” This should only take 30 minutes, tops.

First, go to Google and submit those 3 words in the search engine. Click “Google Adword Keyword Tool,” then, go to the keyword tool and submit the keywords you feel best describe your business and/or program or product, i.e., make money online. Once you put this in the tool it will generate 100-200 or more keyword phrases. (This next step is the most important part of the selection process.)

Search for keyword phrases from the results that show search volume of more than 1,000 for the month (not projected for next month) and less than 10,000. Do not use those that say “Not enough data.” Then check the other factor, “Advertiser Competition.” Here you are looking for those that have less than half the bar colored blue. That means there is less competition and will be simpler to get to the top of the search engines. These are 2 results: make money online marketing (4,400) and make money from home online (9,900).

Select 4-5 phrases that meet the criteria, less than 10,000 searches and less than 50% competition. Then narrow your choice to the one that best meets your needs or that you feel best identifies your marketing approach. This is important because you have to promote this keyword phrase the next 3-6 months until you get to the level of traffic you will need to meet the needs of your program or income needs.

If you are preparing to do this long-term, you will need to determine that these keywords meet your long-term needs. Now you have to make a choice and prepare to start promoting the web site and/or program and generating income.

Before we start writing articles, we need to learn to write hyperlinks. These are simply the way the search engines better detect your keyword phrases. That is, they are inserted in the article so the reader can click on them. Example: < href="http://xxx.affiliate-secret-weapons.com/pips "> business making money online.

Notice that inside the quotes is my web site, but inside the brackets and underlined are my keywords. When this is inserted into html on the article directory, it will be highlighted so that the reader can click the link. I had to modify this hyperlink by typing in xxx instead of www so that it would not do this and you can visualze a hyperlink. Writing a Successful Article for a Business Making Money Online: Part 2

To update from Part 1, this is a brief summary on selecting your keyword phrase.

Part 1 SUMMARY:

Why write articles? GENERATING INTEREST WITH PUBLISHERS AND READERS! LINKS! LEADS! TRAFFIC! CASH!

Remember we have a definite objective for writing articles. Of course, the entire point of writing an article is to generate interest; you want publishers to publish and readers to read. You want that little article to generate enough interest from the reader that they are compelled to click the link in your resource box. How do you accomplish this? There are a few things to remember, as well as knowing what publishers and readers will look for in your article.

We discussed keywords, phrases, links, hyperlinks and traffic. We will review these then get to submitting articles. The important thing is to understand the goal of an article: Get publishers to post them on their site and distribute them to others. This gives you one-way links back to your web site. Get the read to click the link in your resource box. They can reprint your article on their blog or site and you have another link back to your web site.

The search engines seek out links to your web site and the more “relevant” links the better ranking for your site. Relevant basically means that you score best when your links are on sites that are comparable to yours in content and purpose. Get those links!

Keywords/phrase must be what you will market to get traffic/visitors to your web site. Your blog, web site, home page and all articles must also include these keywords. Mine is "business making money online" and was chosen because there was little competition and would be easy getting plenty of visitors/traffic to allow me to make money.

The less competition the better. You want to stay away from the more common keyword terms, e.g., work at home, home business. These have very competitive levels by large established companies and would be very difficult to achieve first page status on the search engines, and not get the traffic you seek.

You want to use “Google Keyword Tool.” The idea is to put in keywords to generate a list to choose from. You put in home business or making money online, or whatever your interest may be for this program. This again will generate a list of 50-100 keyword phrases. You want to select phrases that relate to your interest and select a phrase that gets over 5,000 searches per month but less than 20,000 and has less competition.

You can determine the competition by looking in the column that says Advertising Competition and select one that the bar is only 25-50% blue/green. The less color and more white the bar the less competition. These are good choices. These are the keywords you will use to promote your site.

Let’s look at my keywords, business making money online. (You notice if you click the link it takes you to my sign-up page. That’s hyperlinks.) When you put my keyword phrase in the Google Adwords Keyword Tool –CLICK HERE you will find that it generates only 6,600 searches per month and the competition level is only about 33%. These are the range of numbers you seek for your site and promotion. There are only one or two others on that list that are within acceptable ranges, i.e., money earn free and making money programs,

Try other keywords such as work at home and home business to generate other lists. Get the ones you feel match your web site and/or your feelings about your home business and select YOUR keyword phrase. Remember this one is your target keywords, but you need other keywords to go with them so as to develop secondary search clicks as well. You’ll get into that at a later time.

You don’t want them too low because you will be sharing these visitors with other searches. But the higher click counts tend to very competitive and thus more difficult to get the share you need for a successful online business.

Part 2.

WRITING ARTICLES

Now that you have the keyword phrase you are going to use to promote your site, we are prepared to discuss writing the articles to attract readers and build backlinks to your web site which is the objective of the article writing promotion.

While doing an outline of your article you must keep in mind that you must insert the keyword phrase 2-3 times with the hyperlink to get best results from search engines. Also, the link will take the reader to your web site.

When choosing your articles be sure to select topics you enjoy or those who wish to learn from. For example, following your participation in this article writing training, you may want to write about what worked for you and what you needed further work to accomplish. Just as you may experience these obstacles, so will others. They can therefore learn from your experience. Now you become the instructor by simply sharing what you went through.

Now that you have a topic, you are going to do the research for your background information. This should be kept simple. Use the search engines for quick reference. I use Google for everything. You can look-up a topic in seconds and make notes or copy and paste the content using Microsoft Word or Office. This method is quickest. Be certain to start with topics you are comfortable writing about to get familiar with the process. You can tackle more complicated subjects as you get experienced.

Remember you are writing to promote your web site and you must be creditable. SEO looks for keywords and hyperlinks, but readers want good information. Never print something that may not work or is no valid. Always do a spell and grammar check before submitting the article. Take advantage of all the resources we have available today. You can do an article in 2-3 hours and when submitted can create several backlinks to your web site.

SUBMIT ARTICLES WITH CONTENT WEEKLY

You need to submit 2-3 articles per week to gain the backlinks you will need to get your web site to the top page of the search engines and receive the free natural traffic in the volumes you will need to make money online. This is only one of the factors the search engines weigh but it has a benefit only matched by linking. They are permanent. They can only continue to grow. One article could generate you 10 leads today, but 50 next week and so on.

A well written article is worth the investment of time. They must meet certain requirements before they can be submitted. Check for your keywords and your keyword phrase. Be sure there is plenty of “white paper” on the page- readers tend not read articles if paragraphs are too long. Never make them greater than 3-4 sentences.

Before submitting the article, visit an article directory/site and examine several to become familiar with the format and the required information. Some vary, but typically they ask for your name, email address, a title- very important, a summary, the body of the article and the author resource box.

ATTENTION GATHERING HEADLINES

The title is like your headline for the article and must grab the reader’s attention or your article may never be read. The title should also contain your selected keyword phrase when at all possible. You want that phrase there again for the search engines.

SUMMARY: BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The summary is designed to work in conjunction with the headline to grab the interest of the reader. The two are available to the reader at first glance. They must click the title in order to be directed to the article. I will typically use the first paragraph as my summary and include it in the body of the article so that reader gets the entire article.

Remember, you are attempting to promote your home based business with articles, but they are NOT advertisements. You may not attempt to sell the reader anything except the fact that you have an interesting subject and they may desire to click your link or visit you site/offering. The only place you may reference your site or product is in the resource box.

RESOURCE BOX: ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND YOUR BUSINESS

The resource box should contain your name, information about you (1-2 sentences) a link to your web site and offering to our lead capture page. These are the only items recommended. Most will accept up to 3 links only. The site and lead capture page should be 2 of these.

Your affiliate or service provider should assist you with the information to make this author resource box comply with your objective- get the reader to click your link. Think of it this way, what would attract your attention and make you click that link? Free e-book? Newsletter? You should have this lead capturing item available for use or you need another program.

The money is in the List! If you truly want to make money online, you need to build a list of subscribers to promote your programs and products. The list needs an autoresponder with emails that instruct them on building their business and promoting their business.

SUBMITTING YOUR ARTICLES

Now that you completed your article and have it formatted, spelling and grammar checked, keywords and hyperlinks in place, you are ready to submit your article. There are article submission directories that you may submit at no cost. You can locate the best ones by putting “article directory” in Google. Select the ones at the top of the page. These are the most popular and usually have the greatest distribution.

The directories most recommended: ( these directories have similar guidelines; each stipulates that you must be the copyright holder of the article-owner or author)
